Frequently Asked Questions

Dive deeper into the technical aspects of solar energy systems with our Technical FAQs section. From solar panel specifications to inverter efficiency and battery storage, this resource provides detailed answers to your questions about the nuts and bolts of solar technology.

General Solar Questions

Solar power uses sunlight to generate electricity through solar panels. Sunlight is trapped by photovoltaic cells then transferred as DC(Direct current) to the inverter. The DC produced is converted by an inverter into AC electricity which is the suitable form for use on appliances. Excess power is stored in the batteries for use when there is no sunlight.
Yes. Kenya has excellent solar irradiance year-round. With proper system design and optional battery storage, solar provides reliable and consistent power even during grid outages.

Solar System Options

We design and install:
Grid-tied systems (reduce electricity bills)
Hybrid systems (solar + grid + battery backup)
Off-grid systems (for areas without grid power)

This depends on your electricity usage, budget, and whether you need backup power. Our team conducts a site survey and load analysis to recommend the most suitable solution.

Cost & Savings

The cost depends on system size, type of inverter, batteries, and installation requirements. We provide custom quotations after assessing your energy needs.

Yes. Solar significantly reduces your monthly KPLC bills and protects you from rising electricity tariffs. Solar Spark Energy Kenya offsets 90% to 100% of electricity bills depending on the type
of system and usage.

Yes. We offer flexible payment plans and can advise on available financing options where applicable.

Installation Process

  • Residential systems: 1–3 business days
  • Commercial systems: depends on size and complexity
Solar Spark Energy Kenya has engineers who are licensed by EPRA therefore no approval is needed by the client. All approvals and documentation are done by Solar Spark Energy Kenya.
No. We use professional mounting systems designed to protect your roof and prevent leaks. Also, we do relevant survey before selecting where to mount our panels.

System Performance

Power output depends on panel size, sunlight availability, and system design. We provide estimated daily and monthly energy production before installation.

Yes. Properly designed systems can run pumps, refrigerators, freezers, office equipment, salons,
and industrial machinery.

Batteries & Backup Power

Batteries are optional. They are recommended if you need power at night.

  • Lithium batteries: 8–15 years
  • Lead-acid batteries: 3–5 years

Battery life depends on usage and maintenance.

Maintenance & Warranty

Solar systems require minimal maintenance. Occasional panel cleaning and routine system
checks ensure optimal performance. Solar spark also offers maintenance services on agreement.

  • Solar panels: 12 years
  • Inverters: 2-5years, depending on the type of inverter.
  • Batteries: 2–10 years, depending on type

Safety & Quality

Yes. Our systems include proper grounding, surge protection, and safety devices to protect
people and equipment.

Yes. We use tier 1 products therefore ensuring we use high-quality, certified components from
reputable manufacturers that meet international and local standards.

Monitoring & Support

Can I monitor my solar system?
Yes. Our systems include mobile and web-based monitoring so you can track performance in real
time.
What happens if my system develops a fault?
Our systems have built-in protection and alerts. We provide prompt technical support and after-
sales service.

  • Lithium batteries: 8–15 years
  • Lead-acid batteries: 3–5 years

Battery life depends on usage and maintenance.

Environmental Impact

Absolutely. Solar reduces carbon emissions, noise pollution, and dependence on fossil fuels.
Also, it makes use of solar energy which is a renewable source of energy.

By switching to solar, you reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support clean, renewable energy
for a sustainable future.

After-Sales & Future Expansion

Yes. We provide system training, user manuals, warranty support, and ongoing technical
assistance.

Yes. Most systems are designed to allow future expansion, such as adding more panels, inverters
and batteries.
